What is a Covenant Service?

This week several of our churches will be celebrating Holy Communion as a part of the Covenant Service; but what is a Covenant Service?

Methodists have long been encouraged to renew their covenant relationship with God. Whether it is many years since we first committed ourselves into God's love, or if we are new to the faith, this service gives us the opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to God. The words of the service have great strength; perhaps most of all in the shared prayer where we say "I am no longer mine but yours. Your will, not mine, be done in all things. " All this is placed in the context of God's readiness to surround us in generous love, not dependant on what we deserve.
